FIVE ELEMENTS: WATER

General Information:

“Five Elements: Water” was a 2009 installation commissioned by the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, marking the 50th anniversary of the local chapter of Sogetsu. The cascades of split bamboo evoked the crashing and the spray of waves reaching shore and took its name from the traditional Japanese “five elements” of the world’s creation, water, fire, earth, wind, and sky. (800 pieces of 5-meter long bamboo)
