About this project

This installation was an exhibition design to create a setting for the 2006 Greater New York Orchid Society’s annual show at Rockefeller Center, New York.  The famed skating rink was covered with a huge tent and Mr. Kawana devised bamboo “chandeliers” of split bamboo threaded through hanging poles of bamboo to fill the cavernous space over the orchid displays.  One visitor said the hanging bamboo evoked rays of sunshine, if the weather outside was sunny, or falling rain, if it was raining outside.  Short rounds of bamboo also banked the “Prometheus” statue.
