SHAPE OF THE FUNDAMENTAL PLANT

General Information:

• Installation at the New York Botanical Garden, New York, NY October 18 to November 18, 2007
• “Shape of the Fundamental Plant” was a 2007 installation at the New York Botanical Garden, for the first “Kiku” (Japanese chrysanthemums) exhibition. The installation required 250 bamboo poles, many of them split and either woven into the frame formed of round poles or attached so that they would wave in the wind. In the parterres around the installation, Mr. Kawana planted partially split upright poles that added more graceful movement. (250 pieces of 24-foot-long bamboo. Height: 24 feet)
